Brighton Nursery School | 東京世田谷区下高井戸の英語環境による保育園

Philosophy

At Brighton Nursery School (BNS) , we aim to provide the highest level of care in a happy, safe and secured environment where children can learn, play, and grow. BNS prides itself on passionate, qualified and well experienced educators from different countries, who are well versed in a variety of early childhood educational approaches. Our teaching strategies, daily routine, classroom arrangement and curriculum are carefully designed to support each child’s learning interest and developmental needs.
We observe and document all our children individually, as this enables us to monitor each child’s stage of development and plan how best we can help (advance progress.) We share our findings with parents. We see parents as partners and value their ideas; as a result, we have open communication daily – (My day) journals, portfolios, monthly newsletters and twice a year parent teacher conference.
We plan and also create experiences that can stimulate and nurture the children’s development and skills in the following learning areas: cognitive, language, physical and socio- emotional, creative development and self-help skills. This means we strive to build a strong love of learning foundation for our children with a focus on early literacy development and supporting their intellectual curiosity. This is to prepare them for their future learning experiences.

Curriculum

0 Year Old:

Daisy Class

Our infant program is designed to develop the child’s awareness of themselves and the world around them in a warm, caring environment.

We give our infants time, respect and attention for them to build a secured and trusting relationship with their primary educator. This will enable them to explore their environment with confidence and prepare them for their next developmental level. They also interact with all their older peers and adults to learn and begin learn social skills.

The class program entails the following:

FREE PLAY

We provide sensory experiences, music and movement and we also explore with other learning open-ended activities such as manipulatives that lead to creativity and problem solving.

ROUTINES

Routines such as feeding and sleeping are part of the babies’ day and our routines reflect each baby’s developmental needs and interests. We involve our little ones in all experiences.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

Depending on the weather, we take our infants outdoors to the park twice a day to the four great parks that we visit alternatively to observe nature and get fresh air and exercises.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

We offer our babies the freedom to move both indoor and outdoor with high standard of hygiene and safety as our top most priority. We also plan simple actives to support their growing bodies.

LANGUAGE

The Daisies interact with the older children and educators during free play. We sing and read to them, and we also talk to them about every meaningful experience that they go through like feeding and changing their clothes and nappies, things around etc.

COGNITION

We often change the environment in order for the Daisies to experience new and more complex ways to use learning materials. We also incorporate learning games that allow exploration.

1 Years Old:

Poppy Class

The poppies are more adventurous discovering new things about themselves and their environment. They are ready to investigate and attempt more challenging including learning to listen and asserting themselves. Through observations, we plan and create a program that supports cognition, language, creative, physical and socio-emotional skills.
The program also offers self-selected as well as teacher-directed and group activities that cater to each child’s readiness and developmental needs.
The Poppy class program places great emphasis on how we structure the environment as a way to foster inquiry. Equally important, we structure the flow of the day through activities such as art and craft, music and movement, dramatic play and exploring various materials with diverse themes.

Here are some of the other learning areas covered in the program:

LANGUAGE AND LITERACY

We support their language skills through reading, communicating using simple sentences, finger plays, rhyming, language games as well as encouraging conversations about their experiences and verbalizing their feelings and wants.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

We plan movement activities such as moving to music or directions. We also do parachute play, ball skills, pushing and pulling, using tools as well doing simple self-help tasks.

COGNITION

We introduce them to colors, number concept, sizes, shapes, understanding routines, sorting and pointing to names and objects as well as learning about self.

TOILET TRAINING
AND SELF-HELP SKILLS

We support their toilet training as they start using our child-friendly toilet for their bladder movement. Also, the children are able to do more practical skills such as feeding themselves using utensils, dressing and undressing, putting things away after use.

GROUP TIME

We arrange the classroom setting to allow group interactions such as meal time and short morning circle time. This allows the children to have group fun time and develop simple social skills.

GREAT OUTDOORS

We go outdoors twice in a day as the weather permits. Outdoors is an extension of the classroom. We play, exercise, and learn from whatever the children see and experience at the parks.

2 Years Old:

Tulip Class

Our Tulips are busy, enthusiastic and full of curiosity. They are eager to explore and experiment, as they begin to develop more competencies with skills and are keen to further develop their independence.
The Tulip class program offers stimulating activities that support their growing self-esteem, social interactions like turn taking and conflict resolution. The children are encouraged to develop their growing independence and self-help skills like toileting, dressing and care of belongings with some guidance from educators.
The Tulips day begins with free choice. That is, they can select any activity and materials from class to explore with assistance from their educators when needed.
After free choice, they can move to centers with teacher-directed activities that are carefully prepared based on each child’s readiness to enhance their literacy and language building.
Activities include pre-math and pre-reading, dramatic play, art and craft, science, cognitive skills activities, problem-solving and experimenting with materials covering diverse themes.

GROUP TIME

We arrange the classroom setting to allow group interactions such as meal and morning circle time. This allows the children to have group fun time and develop social skills like turn taking, listening, negotiating and conflict resolution.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

We plan ample activities that support their growing bodies as such yoga, rhythmic and moving to directions and music. We also plan activities that allow them to build and refine their ability to pick and manipulate objects.

GREAT OUTDOORS

We go out to the park twice in a day. We have four great parks that we visit alternatively to play and learn as outdoors are extension of the classroom. We count objects, look at differences, colors, shapes, climb hills and use several types of playground equipment. Going to the park provides opportunities to feel nature, where we can observe bugs, birds, worms, leaves, plants and flowers.

We provide a very rich learning environment for our Tulip class as shown in our daily schedule.

刺激的な日々と個性を尊重してくれる先生方に出会えました

(1歳6カ月女児の母、Ayako Ushijima)

We really can’t thank BNS enough for all they did for our daughter. We are not only so appreciative for everything they taught her (math, science, culture, etc...) and how much they cared for her, but also especially appreciative for much they did to help her become such a strong, confident girl. The combination of all she gained at BNS has truly given her a head start.
